Reading progress update: I've read 250 out of 400 pages.

Defiant: Towers Trilogy Book Two - Karina Sumner-Smith

Work has been crazy this last week, so I haven't had no time to read. Between getting home and taking care of my zoo, the only thing I'm capable of is to immediately fall asleep.

Just to see how things are going, I have been reading _ in this case re-reading _ a book for about a week now. This is embarrassing.

Regarding the story, I think I am liking it more this time around.

It is very well written. Yes, it doesn't read as a non stop adventure like the first one, but the characters feel more human.

Unlike what happens with most ya stories in which the main characters seem to be made out of rubber, never harming themselves, in this one Xhea is facing life with a serious disability.

We don't read many of those.

"Dark magic, she thought. Death magic. A power of ash and endings."

"(..)without xhea, what was Shai but magic that remembered once being a person?"

"Is it worse to be alone in the dark, or kept company by the dead?

Down in the blood and dirt, it seemed hope won out in the end."
