More James, less Dee, please!

Ballad - Maggie Stiefvater

Things you should know about this book:

First, that this is the second one in a series; second... that you should totally ignore the first one, "Lament", if we share the same literary tastes.

I kid you not... O_O...Lament is tragically exasperating...

Thankfully I bought this one at the same time as Lament (big promotion at BD a couple months ago), because if not, I don't think I would have read it!

Lament has the typical YA lead character that falls in love/lust at first sight with the "hero" aka the guy/faerie (Luke) sent to kill her... of course the clueless brat _also known as Dee _ has a best friend (James), who is as obsessed by music as she is, and who is in love with her. Most importantly than that: He never would harm her!!

But of course love is blind, and bloody stupid, so of course Dee will pine for the psychotic man/Fae of her dreams... whatever...i don't care about them..

In Ballad, James is the leading character... and lead he does!!

What an amazing character James turned out to be!!

He's witty, sarcastic, and you know what?
He actually has a sense of humor!!
Like this bears here...cool bears, right? lol

James has seen what the faeries have done to his friend's life. In fact, thanks to their meddling, he almost died. Thanks to that, he now has a peculiar ability: He can sense THEM.

Enter Nuala...
More human, than fae, she walks a lonely short path. Although immortal, each of her lives, will always end at sixteen, and by fire.
Being a Muse, she is attracted to James, whose burning inner life attracts her like a moth.
But James knows he is not to make any deals with Them. Even someone as Nuala, someone who repels and attracts him at the same time.

But Thornking- Ash the academy to where James and Dee moved to continue their musical studies, is not your average music school. Most of the people there are there for a reason, and magic is not as distant as they would wish.

This was so good, that the only reason it doesn't get a 4.5 stars is because I felt the ending was a little abrupt.
Having already read and loved Mercy Wolves trilogy, I can say that the writing of Ballad was on the same level.
Beautiful.
Oh, and apparently there's going to be a third book in the series called "Requiem", due to be released in 2015..
2015...autch...o.O
